Medicaid Expansion

[vc_toptitle title=”Medicaid Expansion”]

A critical issue looms over the Sunflower State – an issue that affects the well-being of its residents and the overall prosperity of the region.

The need for Medicaid expansion in Kansas is more pressing than ever.  It is my intention to get Kansas the help they both want and need.

Access to Healthcare

Kansas is home to a diverse population, ranging from urban centers to rural communities. However, a significant portion of the state’s residents faces barriers to accessing quality healthcare. Medicaid expansion would ensure that low-income individuals, often residing in underserved rural areas, have the means to receive essential medical services. Closing this healthcare gap is essential for fostering a healthier and more productive population.Cushing Closed in Leavenworth

We don’t have to look far, as Cushing Hospital left our area – making it harder for the citizens of Leavenworth County to receive health care.

Economic Impact

Simply put, a healthier population is a more productive one. By expanding Medicaid coverage, Kansas can enhance the overall well-being of its citizens, leading to a more robust and economically active state. When individuals have access to preventive care and necessary treatments, they are more likely to stay in the workforce, reducing absenteeism and increasing productivity. Moreover, it can alleviate the burden on emergency rooms, resulting in cost savings for both individuals and the healthcare system.

Financial Stability for Low-Income Families

Medical expenses can be a significant financial burden, especially for low-income families. Without adequate healthcare coverage, individuals may delay seeking medical attention, leading to more severe health issues down the line. Medicaid expansion would provide a safety net for these families, offering financial security and peace of mind, ensuring that health concerns are addressed promptly.

Reducing the Uninsured Population – Filling the Coverage Gap

A critical aspect of the need for Medicaid expansion in Kansas is the reduction of the uninsured population. Currently, many individuals fall into the “coverage gap,” where they earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford private health insurance. Expanding Medicaid would extend coverage to these individuals, ensuring that they receive the medical care they need without facing financial ruin.

Improving Health Outcomes

A comprehensive healthcare system is not just about access; it’s also about the quality of care. Medicaid expansion in Kansas would lead to improved health outcomes by allowing individuals to seek timely medical attention, reducing the prevalence of chronic conditions, and enhancing overall public health.

Most Importantly – Kansans Want It.

According to the 2023 Kansas Speaks public opinion survey, conducted by the Docking Institution at Fort Hays State University, 69.6% of respondents supported expanding Medicaid in Kansas.  In today’s political environment, it is hard to believe that nearly 70% of people can agree about anything – but the citizens of Kansas agree Kansas needs Medicaid expansion.

Yet, political forces in the Legislature are playing politics – literally with people’s lives – and continue to prevent the will of the people securing the health care they so desperately want.

It’s my goal to get Kansas the care they both want and deserve.  Join me in the fight to get Medicaid expansion in Kansas!
